Pickathon just posted a fresh video today shedding some light on what is the darkest night of the year. This is episode three from season one of their new Design Series featuring our very own Mar Ricketts, the main brains behind this magnificent iconic fabric installation. Check it out!
Philippe Glade has been documenting the extraordinary architecture and temporary structures of Burning Man for the past 20 years. In his latest work, Black Rock City, NV The New Ephemeral Architecture of Burning Man you are given 144 pages with 200 beautiful color images of Philippe Glade's exceptional photography. His efforts in this compilation lead to him winning an American Graphic Design Award 2017 from the magazine Graphic Design USA in its 54th year presenting these awards. The book offers a look at installations, including Sacred Spaces Village created by Guildworks, from the last 5 years of Burning Man. There remains approximately 850 books still available and they can be purchased up to December 15th at realpaperbooks.com through Glade's "Whatever Day Promo" (which is a pretty funny take on Black Friday/CyberMonday and all that nonsense). For a mere $37 (plus free shipping) you can own a copy of this special book and Glade has decided that at the end of the year, whatever books remain will be terminated (Baker Beach style). It was endearing reading Glade's thoughts on the creation of the book from his perspective when he noted that:
"2 years were spent on Research / Writing / Editing / Design and Layout (which paid off with a 2017 Graphic Design Award) / Production and Problem Solving / The result was a burner worthy book with a tactile cloth cover and blind embossing, packed with info, data, tips and, most of all, a very large visual spectrum of our vernacular architecture." Guidworks has the honor of being showcased in the book and the pictures taken are from the 2nd year in a row that we were awarded the Golden Rebar Award For Best Camp (2012 & 2013). Guildworks has been a part of the Burning Man community for several years now and it has always been a pleasure to see Philippe Glade and his ambitious blog This Is Black Rock City appreciate our presence on the playa over the years. This new book is going to be a wonderful keepsake that will only be available for 10 more days. At $37 with FREE shipping I don't know how you can afford not to order a copy... |
